Hi, Would it be difficult to have the levels selectable? I mean the user defines what should be used as level n. As it's done now, I would have preferred "Parish" as level 3. /Peter |

Peter, It isn't so much that it would be difficult to do, but we need to think about the design of the interface. Do we allow all three levels to be configured? Do we always require three levels? What fields do we allow? I haven't been considering parish as part of the location hierarchy but we could include it. I have some new code that allows Gramps handles to be attached to non-leaf nodes in the tree. I'll have to think about how this will be affected. I was also considering changing the level descriptions depending on the selected country. This also needs further thought. Benny has already added a view configuration button though so we have a mechanism to access a view configuration interface. Nick. This will differ from country to country, but for me (Sweden) parish would be the lowest level, as this is the base for most records. If we are not going to be too detailed. Some kind of localized hierarchy would be very good to have. The best thing might be to have the place database organized the same way, but to have this customizable would be too complicated? > I have some new code that allows Gramps handles to be attached to > non-leaf nodes in the tree. > The best thing might be to have the > place database organized the same way, but to have this > customizable would be too complicated? This could be difficult for France as places used parish before 19th century (French revolution) and no more "really" after 1800 (civil division). Also same kind of problem with county/département... http://fr.geneawiki.com/index.php/Informatique_-_saisie_des_lieux http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histoire_des_d%C3%A9partements_fran%C3%A7ais (sorry in french) For my places, I have tried to keep contempory names but it is not always possible. Place name has changed according period. Alternate place names could help us for this, but to re-order divisions with batch could be a nightmare. I like the alternate TreeView and maybe view configuration button could have some models. So I suppose it is planned to add variables set on the .ini file? Users set their model.
