Hi All :) I went through the process of using GRAMPS, and did some reference to other programs, tried to think outside the box, and came up with several suggestions for the development of the system. I was fortunate to be able to discuss these with Don, of which half were either already in the program or had been thought of before. I will try to make one post per item as it then may make tracking them a little easier. 1) A general notepad function. This would be perhaps a single text file, or a single large text field entry within the grdb, that could be opened from the menus or icon bar and can be used as a running notepad that stored your notes as you go. I am aware that you can add notes for individuals within the system, but I was considering a notepad for the db. Sometimes you want to record things that you have done or want to do with the system, maybe you want to jot down a few to do items before you have to switch off. I personally would prefer a db field, as this then will stay with the database and not as a separate text file which can get lost when the db is moved to another pc etc. I notice this function is available in the familysearch software (HYPERLINK http://www.familysearch.org/ http://www.familysearch.org/) and I know I would like it so I could have a quick links to my notes on how to develop gramps :) Does anyone else like the idea or have any thoughts on this? I Have now filed a RFE Request (no.537) for the notepad function. I look forward to help develop it if required. I think it is a good idea. Why don't you file a Feature Request item at http://bugs.gramps-project.org site? Thanks, Alex --=20 Alexander Roitman http://www.gramps-project.org |
