The 2.2.6 release is a quick release to fix the problem with reports. 2.2.5 has a bug that is triggered if you try to create a report in landscape mode. Generating a report in landscape mode would corrupt the saving of you options, preventing you from generating a new report. 2.2.6 fixes this problem. Hi, I remove a primary object with/on individual editor. This was the only one reference for this object. Is it removed on primary view too ? Or GRAMPS keep the reference and I need to use the "unused object" repair tool ? In my case, I often have unused event. Or it is something else: I think I remove a primary object but I remove the reference on a previously created object. Maybe you try to mark the difference with "remove" and "delete" But GTK button "remove" tend us to add "remove" text, displayed on each view... _Page View: 807, _PersonView: 162-163 Views dipslay primary objects, maybe using "delete" will be better (only if you had try to make the difference) Otherwise some Editors use "Delete" entry. If GRAMPS keep the reference, this entry might use remove not delete ? /Editors/_EditEvent: 325 ./_EditPlace: 251 ./_EditRepo: 186 ./_EditSource: 241 Not sure for references and the next ? GrampsWidgets: 663 gramps.glade: 161 related to ? I cannot provide a path ... this interface fix is too confused for me !!! If you didn't try to make difference between "remove" and "delete", then I will use the same word for french translation. -- Jérôme ___________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! A fairly nasty bug was discovered in 2.2.5 that will probably cause a quick release of 2.2.6. While this may not affect everyone, I feel it needs to be fixed. If you attempt to print a report in Landscape mode, 2.2.5 will issue an error, and corrupt your settings file. If you delete the settings file, GRAMPS will rebuild it on the next attempt, but you will still not be able to print in landscape mode. The fix will be available as soon as we are sure there are no other significant issues that need to be resolved. If you do not generate a document in Landscape mode, you should not be affected by this bug. Don |

If we like it, > we can try it on gramps-project.org. Please do. The summer project was in 2006, so a recent version is needed. The main things to look out for: 1/does import grab all features present in today's manual? 2/does export produce the same nice manual, with same division? GRAMPS links to href hardlinks in the GRAMPS python code. 3/can it be refractored easily? Split a long manual page in two (some of the present pages in GRAMPS manual are too long now, but hard coded links in the code make it probably difficult to split the page?) 4/translation: I see several issues: are translations separate manuals or not? (personally not a problem I think, except for the hard coded href links in GRAMPS). Can translators be notified of changes in the english base text? Can they easily have two pages side by side to do translation, or should translation remain based on translating the docbook of english as today with .po, and do export to wiki from that? So only the english manual can be changed via the wiki. Concerning update of moinmoin for docbook, the import/export feature is there. If people start to use it and report bugs, it can stabalize/improve quickly. I wouldn't call myself a wiki guru :), but I have been using MoinMoin for many years. I did originally pick it because it was in Python, but it may not be the best wiki these days. When pages get long, MediaWiki is much better as you can edit sections (although it appears that newer MoinMoin may be working on this). Also, MediaWiki uses a database. The MoinMoin that I use has been file-based (which may make it easier to grab the output). I'd be glad to install the latest MoinMoin, and test out the docbook functionality. I can do it locally, first, and report back. If we like it, we can try it on gramps-project.org. -Doug > Benny > > Quoting Gary Burton <bury_lancs@...>: > >> Hello Benny >> >>>> I have come upon a wiki that supports docbook generation (version >>>> 1.3.5): >> >> I've used MoinMoin before and had no problems with it. I will make enquiries on ubuntu-doc and see what their experience is. I know they've been waiting with enthusiasm for it to become stable so all documentation can be written in a wiki. Duncan |

I talked a bit on #moin channel. The student for google summer of code (docbook wiki) was with moinmoin, and people there say it works just fine, although when I was online, nobody had real experience with it personally. Still some things to integrate, and mainly documentation is missing. I would suggest Alex/Don set up a manual.gramps-project.org to test it out? Or should I try it locally, and let you guys know how it goes? Or is the wiki guru Doug Blank interested in doing a test? His wiki is running on moinmoin (http://emergent.brynmawr.edu/emergent/Gramps-tk), so he has it setup already. Hi, I have come upon a wiki that supports docbook generation (version 1.3.5): http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/MoinMoinWiki See: http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/DocBook It is in python and supports python syntax coloring in the wiki too :-) I think we should have a look at it, Ubuntu, openoffice, ... are using it, so it must be stable. Comparison with other engines: http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/WikiEngineComparison Features: http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/MoinMoinFeatures As Don plans to break documentation out of the main package, and the wiki is still small, so conversion to another engine is at the moment still feasable, we should look into this now. It could mean making the documentation a group effort, and collaboration on translation of English pages. Note that the docbook wiki is also in MoinMoin, http://wiki.docbook.org/topic, but no info on wiki's to be seen there Benny ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. |

GRAMPS 2.2.5 ("Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time") has been release, and is available for download at http://sf.net/projects/gramps Packages for various distributions may become available over the next several days. These packages may appear on the SourceForge site, or appear in your distributions repositories. 2.2.5 focused heavily on two major areas - bug fixes and performance optimizations. Large databases will operate much faster than in previous releases. Several new features where added, including a Birthday List report, and a new date entry box. Version 2.2.5 -- the "Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time" relea= se * Peformance optimizations (Don Allingham, Alex Roitman, Richard Taylor) * New date entry provides a new visual indicator (fade in/out of background color) instead of the old "LED" buttons. (Zsolt Foldvari) * Keybindings added for list views (Don Allingham, Benny Malengier) * New Birthday and Anniversaries report (Douglas Blank) * Better error checking * Better longitude/latitude handling, mapping (Benny Malengier, Zolt Foldva= ri) * Bug fixes (Don Allingham, Martin Hawlisch, Brian Matherly, Alex Roitman, Douglas Blank, Stefan Bjork, Richard Taylor) |

I just committed the change for the undo history key binding: the Alt+H has been changed to Ctrl+H. The reason is that the Alt+H was colliding with the Help menu shortcut. Both the code and the manual are corrected in SVN now. Alex --=20 Alexander Roitman http://www.gramps-project.org |

No, Ctrl-I still brings up the import dialog. What you are seeing is a warning that proceeding with the import will cause the clearing of the undo history. This means that you will not be able to undo edits that occurred prior to the import after the import is complete. If you notice, the two options are to "Stop" or to "Proceed with import" The key binding to bring up the undo history is Alt-H Don On Sun, 2007-01-28 at 18:55 +0100, J=C3=A9r=C3=B4me wrote: > On last SVN (8002), *Ctrl+i* call "undo session history" function=20 > instead of "import" dialog !!! >=20 >=20 >=20 > benny.malengier@... a =C3=A9crit : > > Hi, > >=20 > > a patch for after 2.2.5 that might need some checking/testing in attach= ment. > >=20 > > What: keybindings on person view: Enter to open a parent node, or to go= to edit > > dialog, and Delete to delete one or more persons. I was just exploring Eric3 as an alternative to emacs for Python development. It looks quite nice, the trouble is it fails at the first hurdle because it won't run gramps in its nice GUI debugger. The trouble is that Eric3 has a module called Config.py and so does gramps and when running in the debugger it decides that gramps should get the Eric3 version of the module. This seams broken to me. Before I go asking on the Eric3 mailing list, has anyone else looked at this? Regards Richard |

I found another error in SVN: http://bugs.gramps-project.org/view.php?id=882 but mistyped on the subject line. Found it due to all the clicking on the pictures. However, I suppose all bugs on the bug tracker are in 2.2.5, and don't think it's related to the changes 2.2.4 to 2.2.5. Actually, I added the tool tip. I was able to reuse an already translated string ("View in the default viewer") Don On Fri, 2007-01-26 at 07:32 -0800, Alex Roitman wrote: > On Fri, 2007-01-26 at 10:10 +0100, benny.malengier@... wrote: > > In media view, the new View icon has no tooltip. > > This is visually disturbing :-) >=20 > I noticed that too. Ok, I found why enter does not work on my system: the numlock is registered as a modify key. So I can only press enter in GRAMPS and have results when numlock is off :-( The following makes enter work in my system, and adds the bonus of adding the keypad enter as enter key. On my keyboard that enter is easier to find than the return: def key_press(self,obj,event): ret_key = gtk.gdk.keyval_from_name("Return") keypad_enter = gtk.gdk.keyval_from_name("KP_Enter") if (event.keyval == ret_key or event.keyval == keypad_enter) \ and (event.get_state() == 0 \ or event.get_state() == gtk.gdk.MOD2_MASK ) : self.edit(obj) return True return False So, my numlock is by X assigned to gtk.gdk.MOD2_MASK. From http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk/gdk-constants.html#gdk-modifier-constants it is clear that this key cannot be CTRL or Shift, so it cannot be a problem to catch it generally. In attachment a patch which changes above in Pageview. However, this piece of code appears elsewhere too ... (eg find on filters) The patch also contains code to make on enter on parent node open the parent node, so edit only happens when enter is pressed on child. This is very handy: def edit(self, obj): store, paths = self.tree.get_selection().get_selected_rows() if paths and len(paths[0]) == 1 : self.tree.expand_row(paths[0], 0) return True else : self.edit_sel_person(obj) where the last method is the edit method of today. Finally, a question: in Pageview.py, class ListView has method key_press, but this looks identical to me as in parent class (which is what changes in the patch). I think it can be deleted. About the delete, I understand the concern. CTRL-Del is fine. We should just change doc, and I would vote for addition to the menu. The documentation in wiki-style would really be welcome to change small parts in the docs. Ok, First, my patch was not so good as I didn't know about the accellerator options in GRAMPS. Second, Enter key most definitely does not work on my PC as an accellerator to edit dialog. I click on list, move with arrows. Both enter keys on my keyboard do not react. I'll try it tonight some more if time. Furthermore, on the Person view, I believe enter should open the parent node when on parent, and call edit dialog when on person, making navigation truly possible. The fact that the keys are bound to the entire dialog is due to GRAMPS design and is not really necessary I think. The design with the toolbar, and calling actions on the toolbar globally is nice, but you can do that otherwise. It's not like the code becomes too complicated when you bind them only to the treeview. (Note that if you type on treeview 'Ma' which opens the search box, that ctrl+delete does not delete the active person, but deletes part of the search, so the search box grabs some of the key presses.) If you only allow delete when focus is on the treeview, then you can press delete/enter outside of the treeview without deleting a person, and CTRL+DEL would still work globally (Here on my PC enter does not work to do filter, ..., I have to click the buttons every time (highly annoying)). Anyway, concerning delete, I you hit delete, you get a pop-up asking if you are sure. Hardly any possibility of an error. Should you still hit yes, you can undo it without problem. The way I see it, there is little use for options only the developers know about. CTRL-Del is ok for me, but should then be advertised somehow, like by adding it to the delete option in the menu as 'Remove CTRL-DEL' (see eg firefox menu). I'll test with ENTER tonight, but I think whatever is chosen, both enters on my keyboard should work, not just 'Return' Benny Quoting Don Allingham <donaldallingham@...>: > Alex and I discussed this last night, and we decided that Delete was too > common of a thing. Alex and I discussed this last night, and we decided that Delete was too common of a thing. People could easily hit this out of context. If you can make a good case for it being Delete instead of Control-Delete, we would be glad to listen. We just don't want to override what Delete means in other contexts (like editing the search bar) Enter actually does work, if your focus is on the list, not a not anywhere else. This is similar to the Delete issue. If we make it globally active, then you can't use Enter to activate a search. Maybe we should add Control-Enter so that it operates globally? Actually, as far as the patch goes, it really isn't necessary. We are using gtk.UIManager to manage menus. Any entry in the menu can be bound to a key by adding an accelerator string to the description. No coding required. And it avoids the ugly mess of having to handle gtk Events. Menuless accelerators can be handled this way as well, with just a little more code (take the control-J as an example). It is labeled as an UIManager accelerator, and our ViewManager dispatches it to the correct code. The manual is out of date simply because we did not have time to do anything about this. This was added around 10:30pm last night. I have to sleep sometime :-) Don On Fri, 2007-01-26 at 10:08 +0100, benny.malengier@... wrote: > Don, >=20 > I saw you added some keybindings this evenings. >=20 > Why CTRL+DEL to delete, and how are users to find out about this?
