You didn't provide many hints (Gramps version, OS) but here are some things to try:

1) From the terminal, you can enter "gramps -l" (small L). That will list the names of the databases and their locations. Use capital L to see more details.

2) You can change to that directory to see the files, usually cd ~/.gramps

3) I can't think of a reason for this to happen, except if you moved .gramps directory, or changed the Database Path in Preferences. Are you logged into the right user?
