Sorry, in your case it is version 3.4, so folder gramps34, not gramps40

Maybe something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\<~username>\Application Data\gramps\gramps40\gramps.ini

or

C:\Users\<~username>\AppData\Roaming\gramps\gramps40\gramps.ini

Folks
Just cannot find the config file.
Have checked that Windows is configured to show hidden files
in Explorer.

Advice VERY welcome
Cheers

Gramps install - need to access existing Gramps database on

  Benny (and anyone else)

No - still wrestling with it - Going backwards in
  fact!

  OS: Windows
  Vista

  First download/installation/run produced errors
  - removed it
  using Windows-own 'remove program' facility
  - Re-downloaded
it, re-installed it, with option 'run immediately'
selected

  - install seemed
  fine
  - started to run,
and then immediately came up with "unexpected error" and:
  4709: ERROR:
  clidbman.py: line 400:
ERROR: Wrong database path in Edit
  Menu->Preferences.
Open preferences and set correct database
  path.

  Tried to set my
network file as the Family Tree, but got:

    354552: ERROR:
    gramps.py: line 105: Unhandled exception
Traceback (most recent call
    last):
File "C:\Program Files\GrampsAIO32\share\gramps\gui\configure.py",
    line 1175, in select_dbpath
dbpath = os.path.join(os.environ['HOME'],
    '.gramps','grampsdb')
File "C:\Program Files\GrampsAIO32\lib\os.py", line
    423, in __getitem__
return self.data[key.upper()]
KeyError:
    'HOME"

  Seems to me that
the uninstall left some incorrect settings
  behind.....
  Ran the
uninstall program that came with Gramps, closed Windows,
  re-started, re-installed Gramps
  - exactly
  the same problems.

Cheers
Raphael(PS: On a Windows system, what is the name of the Config file(s) and where is it/they located?)

The config file is in a folder ..../gramps40/gramps.ini

Don't know where this is stored in windows.

Benny

  Did you work this out?

First, take backup of the data on
  the network.
Next, what OS ?
You need to make the LAN
available via a normal mount, so in linux /mnt/mylan (eg samba shares can be
mounted via cifs) or in windows H:/

Once you did this, locate
the grampsdb folder with the data.
This must be set in the
preferences of Gramps as the database location.

    Hi

I had Gramps installed on my laptop, with the
    database on a network drive
    Then the laptop died

I installed Gramps on another PC, but cannot set
it up to access the LAN-based file.

Any help appreciated (too much detail will not
    offend ;-)

    TIA
