I'm new to the list so I'm sorry if this was previously discussed.
I recently happened upon an old Personal Ancestry File database from another branch of the family. I'm interested in converting it to GEDCOM (or something) so I can work with it in Gramps. Unfortunately PAF seems to have been wiped from the face of the earth about a year ago.
The PAF website recommends a few different non-free alternatives, but none of them have any mention of supporting the PAF file format. I also don't see if the maintainers ever put out a tool to convert the files to GEDCOM. I'm wondering if someone else in the list has run into a similar situation and what the prognosis is? If there is not a tool out there has anyone tried to reverse engineer it or is there some documentation of its structure?
It's not critical I suppose. I think the best option for me is to try and track down the genealogist, but I was curious.
