Is there a local fix I can make? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.

This is due to an updated library on Ubuntu 10.04 that has a slightly different API working, the same code works on earlier Ubuntu.
Our sourceforge page (see download link from gramps-project.org) has a bug fix version for ubuntu that fixes this, version 3.2.3 I think. Please bug ubuntu at lauchpad to update Gramps in the repositories so as to have the fix.
