Having used PCLOS for a few years (Gnome version) I think the issue in question here is that PCLOS does not repost security announcements made by a lot of the software developers like Ubuntu does, but I think the updates are posted in the repositories. That may not be a good way to do things, but on the other hand, users would have to go to the user's forum to see those posts. I never go to the user forum unless I have a question or problem to check out. The best thing for any Linux (or Mac or Windows) user to do is get in the habit of regularly checking for and installing updates by whatever method is provided in their operating system.

Hi Benny et al.

There are so many variables when comparing two distros that I don't
want to be caught thinking that the number of security related patches
is a definitive measure, Ubuntu releases more of them than pclinux.
But was that the point you're trying to make? Do you consider pclinux
more intrusion secure than Ubuntu?

Not at all, my point was that pclinuxos appears far less secure.
The main website says:

PCLinuxOS is safe and secure. You never have to worry about viruses, adware, malware or trojans infecting your computer with PCLinuxOS.

I see nothing in pclinuxos that makes this statement true!

It seems big misinformation to me if you cannot even find on their website how security updates are actually handled (nor via quick google search). I really find it annoying that many reviews are pointing new users in the direction of pclinux and consorts that have no official policy on how to handle security updates. This is really not doing the users a favour. Reviews should take this very important issue into account.

Derivatives should closely track their parent distro, eg http://www.mandriva.com/en/security/advisories
It should be easy to check by pclinuxos users if they obtained for april http://lists.mandriva.com/security-announce/2010-04/ , and to check if after 6 months this is still the case. Altough, if not mistaken, pclinuxos has deviated a lot from mandriva, so this might not be doable/relevant.

... I hope noone accuses you of fan-boyism for voicing your opinion.
