in GQ 1.2.1 (x86_64 self built RPM FC5) when I try to
perform a search (select the server, type in search
query ,press enter) I get a dialog claiming "oops,
unable to connect to server" and the server drop down
is now empty, and going into the preferences/servers
there are No longer any servers defined. I have to
quit and restart gq before the server list shows backup
and I can "Browse"

Also the list of attributes for the search options is
no longer populated (last version I used was 1.1.3
which worked correctly)

Let's address these issues one by one (they are different
    bugs, actually):

    This is the proposed order:
    1. Missing search options
    2. Disappearing servers
    3. Not being able to connect (this one looks like a known
    one to me)

Okay, so let's start with the first one:
To make sure we're talking about the same things: with "list
of attributes for the search options", are you talking about
the search history (the drop down list on the search tab
next to the server combo)? Or are you talking about the
search options on the "Search" tab in the preferences? Or
are you talking about the "Search Attribute" property of
    your server?

well the disapearing servers doesn't happen since I rebuilt
on both systems. and the list of attributes (attributes tab
in the search options) now shows up. However.. it doesn't
actually "do anything" currently. I'm trying to select
several attributes that I wish to show up in the search
results, however all that shows up is the dn (though only
like 100px of it) and an empty object class attribute w/ no
    content.

    Servers are openldap 2.2.23/

There is a problem with the connect code in GQ 1.2.x. If you
want to be asked for a password, you need to check the "Ask
Password on first connect" on the server preferences. This
is fixed and solved in a nicer way in 1.3.x.

I *think* I have the same problem, using GQ LDAP Client 1.2.1 on Ubuntu.
That is, I downloaded GQ today, and there are a lot of things in the GUI I don't understand.

I can connect to the LDAP server using (for example)
    ldapsearch -x -h 'ldap.example.com' 'cn=MYSIGNUM'
    (On Solaris, I don't need the -x)
I have no idea about which software is used for the server, or who runs it. Probably outsourced to HP.

With GQ, there are the three fields in a horizontal row, that I'm not sure how to fill in. My best guess is that the second is the nickname for the server, and the third is the search string, and (from http://www.gq-project.org/screenshots/search.gif, which is a different version of GQ) is a regular expression.

I've tried to fill in my ldap server name using the preferences. Sometimes, I can browse the server, using the Browse tab. It seems that I have to enter the server name the first thing I do after starting GQ, otherwise it doesn't show up in the server list in the Browse tab.

I tried to fill in the Search tab fields thus:
    (sn=*)
    myServerNickName
Helge (My name, which should be in the database)

    Result:
    Oops! Server 'myServerNickName' not found!
    [OK]

(If I knew how, I would upload a screenshot, but I can't find how to do it here on Sourceforge)

    Helge
