As there are several major OpenLDAP versions with
incompatible APIs around, we should try to create our
own abstraction layer which implements the workarounds
if necessary.

This would avoid the desaster that we had with
incompatible GTK+ versions and thousands of #ifdef's in
the source code.

    It is up to OpenLDAP to preserve its own backward compatibility. If OpenLDAP fails, we should consider a more stable LDAP developpement library. I do not think it is the case.
