Hi,
I have several problems with gpstrans 0.39 (Debian
testing package) and my Garmin eMap, software version 2.73.
'gpstrans -i' reports:
[..]
Connected GPS [/dev/garmin] is: Garmin eMap Software
Version - V2.7
1. saved tracks loose their timestamps (always
12/31/1989 00:59:59) and height
gpsman doesn't show the timestamp too, so garmin maybe
throws away the timestamp ?
2. open tracks loose their height
3. waypoints loose their name and timestamps:
Format: DDD UTC Offset: 1.00 hrs Datum[100]: WGS 84
W ˙˙˙˙AL 188.542969 meters
12/31/1989 01:00:00 49.000000 9.000000
gpsman doesn't show a timestamp at all - so maybe there
is none for waypoints?
4. all tracks go to stdout without a separator (their
name would be a good one :) )

I can duplicate this 100%. I'm also using gpstrans 0.39 from Debian
3.0.
Sample waypoint:
W /!QYiQYiQYi 001 12/31/1989
-8:00:-1 -000'06.7" -000'19.4"
Samples track:
T 08/30/2002 11:04:48 4719'52.4" -12239'40.2"
T 08/30/2002 11:04:59 4719'52.4" -12239'39.5"
It appears that some tracks show up as 12/31/1989 -8:00:-1, while
others have the correct time/date. Strange.
I have the exact same GPS reciever, the Garmin eMap v2.7.
