There is a tutorial explaining how to load into the database an osm file: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/gpsdrive/index.php?title=8.04_manual.
However, the tutorial is written for Ubuntu and it does not work as well for other distros (openSUSE).
So, I would like to have an import option from gpsdrive GUI in order to import an extrenal osm file into the database.

Have you tried to import the Data with the script mapnik-osm-updater.sh?
