But I now know that it's not a GPSBabel problem. :-) What I do see is that we're successfully sending commands at 4800bps to the unit and getting mush back from it. (You're spelling it "Baudrate" below which we don't understand and thus ignore, but our default is 4800.) You don't have NMEA on. You have some kind of a serial problem. Maybe you have a bad cable - I've had two bad Magellan serial cables, but I'm guessing I plug and unplug them more than the average user. Maybe your receiver isn't set for 4800bps. Maybe your serial port is toast. Maybe some other application is commandeering the serial port. A successful communication with a Magellan on Linux will look something like this sample [ coords obscrured ] : [robertl@rjloud gpsbabel]$ gpsbabel -D9 -i magellan -f /dev/ttyS0 GPSBabel Version: 1.2.8-beta12012005-clyde WRITE: $PMGNCMD,HANDON*70 WRITE: $PMGNCMD,VERSION*28 READ: $PMGNCSM,28*6F READ: $PMGNVER,036,VER 4 03,SporTrak*28 ACK WRITE: $PMGNCSM,28*6F WRITE: $PMGNCMD,NMEAOFF*3A READ: $PMGNCSM,3A*17 WRITE: $PMGNCMD,WAYPOINT*71 READ: $PMGNCSM,71*63 READ: $PMGNWPL,3358.000,N,08353.000,W,0000000,M,-,-,a*45 ACK WRITE: $PMGNCSM,45*64 READ: $PMGNWPL,3350.000,N,08419.000,W,0000000,M,100Behin,100% Behind the Cure,a*7D ACK WRITE: $PMGNCSM,7D*16 READ: $PMGNWPL,3405.000,N,08416.000,W,0000000,M,150Combo,1.50 Combo,a*4F ACK WRITE: $PMGNCSM,4F*17 READ: $PMGNWPL,3356.000,N,08426.000,W,0000000,M,1stAnniv,1st Anniversary Cache -- SOAP,a*08 [ ... ] RJL > > WRITE: $PMGNCMD,HANDON*70 > WRITE: $PMGNCMD,VERSION*28 > READ: $PMGNCMD,HANDON*70 > > ACK WRITE: $PMGNCSM,70*62 > COMM ERROR: Expected 28, got 00READ: $PMGNCMD,VERSION*28 > > ACK WRITE: $PMGNCSM,28*6F > COMM ERROR: Expected 28, got 00RXERR 00/13: > '$XmEOCS]m72*>2O.tMGOCME.VuSSmO??????{????[[?35?VmgnkmVlV?=?????w?' > > the only part that I understand is > MAGPROTO: bad communication.
