Thanks again, all. I take on board the points about the inherent precision of my source coordinates and the various datums. My source coordinates are quite variable in precision but a few have nominal precision of ±10m or less (possibly unwisely). The Helmert transformation would certainly be acceptable to me. I also realise that I could do all this using a GIS with appropriate plugins but there is an attraction in working with simple text files, which I tend to do using an iPad while sitting on the sofa 🙂. I've been submitting my CSVs from this device to the GPSBabel-powered GPS Visualizer web service and the approach has served me pretty well. I'm working as a volunteer in my spare time so I'm very grateful for such resources. |
