Unfortunately in the beta of 1.2.5 that is currently up at sourceforge, serial transfer got broken. It should work with version 1.2.4 and it will work when the next build of 1.2.5 is out. Jeremy |

Hiketech support existed only since gpsbabel_1_2_5_beta11012004 so it can't be too old. > Unfortunately in the beta of 1.2.5 that is currently up at > sourceforge, serial transfer got broken. Is the serial transfer breakage my fault, Jeremy? RJL |

I downloaded 1.2.4 and using the GPS as input and saving the tracks as a GPX file, it still would not download. It says "Sorry, download from Garmin GPS receiver failed". If others can download by doing it this way, it must be the cable or driver as I have always felt it was. Just to inform you I use VirtualPC and have even installed the PC drivers that came with with my cable, and others that I have downloaded, and I still can't get my cable to download into any PC program that I have tried. It works when I connect it to my daughters PC using the serial plug, just not on mine with the USB to Serial. But in the end I now can use gpsbabel to do what I want to do, so I am happy. If it doesn't work with any program and either OS, I'm afraid I won't be the best one to help you proceed. USB/serial adapters are pretty finicky in every OS[1], it seems. I'd look to the vendor support channels and/or web searches to see what I could find out about that specific USB/serial thingy. RJL [1] The USB Working group stupidly failed to formalize a class definition for serial device that was useful, forcing every vendor to do their own thing, provide their own drivers, and generally have the wild wild west. |
