Hello,

I've done the comparison, and the GarminDevice.xml is the same. There were only differences in the System.xml and the .position.gpx. the last one is clear, It contains my current position. And in System.xml, the only thing addes was the crash of the GPS, with the value of Register 1 to 14.

So it seems, GPSbabel crashed by a response from my Garmin. This response was 'I suspect' not well formulated, by the unstable state of the GPS as result of the systemcrash.

I suspect, that we'll never find out why GPSbabel crashed, because I cannot reproduce the unstable state of the GPS. Too bad.

I'm still wondering in what language GPSbabel is made, because part of the source was in .rb-files and RealBasic did recognize these files.

Thanks,

Jeroen

Subject: Re: [Gpsbabel-misc] [Win8]GPSBabel Version 1.4.3 crash

Thanks Robert,

Everything with GSAK (and GPSbabel) was working fine, till my Garmin GPSmap 62s crashed during a walk outside. He produced a very sharp and loud tone, and I wasn't able to shut it down the normal way. The only way was to take out the batteries.

This happened by coincindence at the same day I installed Windows 8 on my pc. So I did not have a reference about what was the cause of the GPSbabel crash.
Only after sweeping the dust of an very old laptop and trying GSAK and GPSbabel on that old laptop, I discovered the problem was my GPS. GPSbabel on this old pc, that always worked, did also crash.

After this discovery I did a factoryreset of my GPS, and GPSbabel worked again.

I did make a backup of all the files on my GPS, so I will compare those with the current version. I'll let know as soon as I'm ready with this comparison.

If it used to work and now it doesn't, *something* has changed.   Did a device firmware upgrade happen?  I'm guessing it's not generically broken on whatever unnamed device you're using or the GSAK users would be storming our door.

Also, we don't use RealBasic.   But if you can drive a debugger (The Windows Visual stuff is free, but it's always a pain to make it work) that would accelerate finding out what's going on.

Thanks for the suggestion,

A few minutes ago I tried version 1.4.4, and still it crashes.

I'm already downloading the source and RealBasic, and I'll try to debug it (but I'm not familiar with RB at all)

Thanks so far,

Jeroen

Me neither. However, the current version is 1.4.4. May be it helps...
