Thanx.  But this appears to be a trap as the word "Maverick" doesn't appear on that page.

Are you saying that it was actually the same for Iguana, Jackalope, Koala, and Maverick (or whatever the animals are - I miss numbers...) and Natty changed it?
Oops, sorry for the confusion. The machine I have is running Natty and I used the same rules as Hardy's but a different command to reload the rules. I don't know about the other versions in between. The new rules will be loaded correctly at next reboot anyway.
I really with the Linux guys would just fix this and not leave it up for us to document and the users to discover... 

I couldn't agree more. Are you in touch with the debian package maintainer(s)?
