hr, depth, cadence, and temperature are Garmin extensions to GPX and require use of the garminextensions option to the gpx writer.

Hi everyone,

I'm using GPSBabel 1.4.4 on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS to convert FIT files taken from a Garmin Edge device to GPX format

The command I use to do this is:
gpsbabel -i garmin_fit -f infile.fit -o gpx -F outfile.gpx

This works very well, however the resulting GPX file only has information about elevation, time, speed and GPS coordinates.

I was wondering if it was possible to also extract the heart rate and  temperature data from a FIT file, I saw a mention of this functionality in the docs:

http://www.gpsbabel.org/htmldoc-development/fmt_garmin.html

"...while we do extract data such as heart rate and temperature from tracks on the sporting models like Edge and Forerunner, GPSBabel is not a fitness program at its core and does not support features like workouts or calorie/fitness zone data..."

This also seems to have been discussed a few years ago here:
http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.gps.gpsbabel.general/month=20081001/page=2

I would greatly appreciate any advice at all, I don't necessarily need to export this data to a GPX file, although it would be handy.

Thanks in advance,
