Distributions are likely to phase out GTK2 sooner or later, e.g. Debian is about to do so in the next release:

Any chance to see gprename ported to GTK3?

Zurd - 2019-10-16

I just tried to port it and I'm tired after one hour. I hate gtk-perl ever since I touched it. The documentation is extremely bad. Porting gprename to GTK3-Perl is not an easy task, there's a lot of broken code.

I decided 2 years ago to redo gprename to Tk Python, it would be cross platform linux/windows but I don't have much time to code it. I better focus on this one instead of fixing gprename.
