Hi there,
I've used gphoto2 successfully for over a year now. However, 2 nights ago I had issues with the capture-preview stream breaking or at least being interuppted at times. I had my Nikon d5200 camera powered by a continuous power supply. The camera was connected to my Mac Mini via USB port like always. I also had a continuous ring light on. This ring light has a knob to turn the light progressively up or down. We consistently were able to produce an error where the capture-preview stream would break, displaying a "broken/no image" type of icon on the screen whenever the light was turned up. We could only get the capture-preview stream to continue working by turning the light down so low that it was almost useless. FYI, the room was rather dark with minimal lighting.
I know this is a shot in the dark and probably has nothing to do with the gphoto2 software...But I would love to hear if anyone else has ever experienced something like this. Or what your hunch even might be as to why turning up a continuos ring light would affect the ability of my camera to stream the capture-preview like it always does.
Btw, I was at another location when this happened. At home I cannot reproduce this error nor did it happen the night before when using the camera for close to 300 photos. I am really afraid that this issue will pop up again but don't have many clues. Are there any common reasons for capture-preview to stop working when using a light? I feel it could have to do with the power circuit I was connected to but I don’t want to jump to conclusions.
no good ideas here, but I am probably the only one reading it. you could mail the gphoto-user mailinglist.
this sounds like a bit like a lack of power / voltage issue.
