Bugs item #654216, was opened at 2002-12-15 22:20 You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=108874&aid=654216&group_id=8874 Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Submitted By: d gilder (deglog) Assigned to: Marcus Meissner (marcusmeissner) Summary: gtkam/gphoto2 Could not claim the USB de Initial Comment: GTKam/gphoto2 and HP photosmart 850 (or any PTP usb camera?) With Mandrake 9, it works fine as root, but as a user i got error message 'Could not claim the USB device' The solution in my case was to edit the /etc/hotplug/usb.usermap file: At the end of the file i changed the lines starting # USB PTP Class Camera usbcam 0x0080 0x0000 0x0000 to # USB PTP Class Camera usbcam 0x0003 0x03f0 0x4302 These numbers identify the PTP Camera as a HP 850. Not much of a clue why, but it works for me. I guess - The HP 850 is a PTP camera, but it didn't match the identity of the PTP camera as described in the file, so my /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam script was not run, so i couldn't access usb. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Arnaud Launay (asl) Date: 2003-01-14 20:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=18854 Submitter reported success of resolution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: d gilder (deglog) Date: 2003-01-14 19:23 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=669732 Exchanged line, problem fixed. thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Marcus Meissner (marcusmeissner) Date: 2003-01-11 00:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=48092 1. We should simplify and and clean up libexif as much as possible and then apply the principles to libgphoto2. Dunno what causes it but under linux if I try to read (for example) 4096 bytes and there is only 32 read returns 32. It seems thet in FBSD it waits for more data... As I cannot determine how much data is there going to be I try to read more, which works for linux but seems fails under BSD. You should contact the FreeBSD libusb maintainer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Justin Hawkins (tardisx) Date: 2002-08-23 01:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=598197 I've always run as root, just to be sure. Dock or direct cable, seems to make no difference. Confirmed that camera is on (/var/log/messages shows the ugen0 device coming up) before running gphoto in all cases. I've attached a ktrace (no strace on FreeBSD) from running: gphoto2 --camera "Kodak DX-3600" --port "usb:" -l Does this perhaps need to be 'escalated' to the FreeBSD libusb folks? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Hubert Figuiere (hfiguiere) Date: 2002-08-22 12:38 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=27487 what if you run gphoto2 as root ? If your camera is switched off the gphoto2 does not even detectit so it won't show the abilities. Your problem may be related to FreeBSD libusb. Please try to connect the camera directly (without docstation) and if it won't help send me the output of strace gphoto2 -L --debug ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Justin Hawkins (tardisx) Date: 2002-08-22 09:54 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=598197 Doesn't the fact that --auto-detect and -a (abilties) can get some data from the camera count for some communication? If I have the camera switched off, --auto-detect does not find anything. Pressing the button while docked and doing another --auto-detect does then show it up. I deleted, confirmed it was gone, and re-installed libusb. No change. :-( ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mariusz Woloszyn (kil3r) Date: 2002-08-22 09:40 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=173521 Well... There is definitely no usb communicatio. The first write to the device fails. It's not subject to ptp driver, but a general usb issue. Are you sure you have only one instance of libusb installed in your system? Or perhaps you're using the dockstation? If so, make sure to press the button on it before starting the communication, or connect the camera directly to your computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Justin Hawkins (tardisx) Date: 2002-08-22 03:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=598197 No different. Debug output is attached. The error shown in your logfile _might_ be caused by a bug present in gphoto2 2.1 ptp driver. (You may also copy a camlibs/ptp directory from current CVS tree to your 2.1 sources and recompile. Make sure you have only one instance of libgphoto2 and libgphoto2_port libraries). Let me know if it helped. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=108874&aid=598032&group_id=8874 |

With Mandrake 9, it works fine as root, but as a user i got error message 'Could not claim the USB device' The solution in my case was to edit the /etc/hotplug/usb.usermap file: At the end of the file i changed the lines starting # USB PTP Class Camera usbcam 0x0080 0x0000 0x0000 to # USB PTP Class Camera usbcam 0x0003 0x03f0 0x4302 These numbers identify the PTP Camera as a HP 850. Not much of a clue why, but it works for me. I guess - The HP 850 is a PTP camera, but it didn't match the identity of the PTP camera as described in the file, so my /etc/hotplug/usb/usbcam script was not run, so i couldn't access usb. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Marcus Meissner (marcusmeissner) Date: 2003-01-10 23:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=48092 1.
