#1045 digiKam cn't download pix it can see in import window

Which I think might be related to database used, which may have changed between debian/bullseye and debian/bookworm. looking at an older album in digiKam I often get an advisory popup that the image storage location is not available, which stays visible for up to 15 second, but is eventually replaced by the properties display, as if it finally found the image. I can see the image in the import window of digiKam, but cannot download the image to my Picture/subdir chosen. The digiKam folks think is grabbing the device but I've chmod'd -x that library and htop cannot find it running, I doesn't make sense to me that I can see an image i the camera and display it, but cannot download it.
