v0.956, Thunderbird 1.5, smtp fails

Greetings,
Using GPGrelay v0.956 and Thunderbird 1.5, sending mail via smtp.gmail.com fails. Receiving mail via pop.gmail.com works OK. I did increase logging and have not been able to correct the issue from clues in the log file. I have not tried Thunderbird 1.0.7.

Any ideas about what the Unrecognized command may mean?
