The regular expression used in the sed command for this revision does not work on non-GNU sed such as the version included with Mac OS X and Solaris.

I am attaching a patch to at least fix the build for Solaris, but it is very much a "work in progress" -- it makes no attempt to detect if sed actually exists in /usr/local/bin. It also does not fix the breakage on OS X.

Can this maybe be done with 'cut' or 'awk' instead?

Thanks for the report, we'll see what we can do . Just a clarification: only osx prior to 10.6 are in trouble right ?

We'd also be interested in any advice on which solaris to pick up to create a test machine...

The machines where I see the failure are Solaris 10 8/11 (U10) and OS X 10.6.8.
