Add an option to display an instant notification balloon via Notify OSD (the Ubuntu notification system) / Windows Notification system in case of receiving a new email / wave / feed / etc.
If you can not use NotifyOSD, implement a different system of displaying a balloon, but it should automatically disappear after a few seconds (like does gmail-notify).

It would be very nice to have sender and subject of the email in the balloon.

It appears the Windows XP/Vista/7 notification ballons are Not Going To Happen... at least, not without adding support for it in GTK, or me handling the notification area icons directly instead of using GTK, which would be more of a pain in the ass than its worth.

As far as notify-osd goes, it's not a huge problem to add, although it looks like I'll have to 'roll my own' anyway for Windows support, so I guess Linux users will get a choice. I'll need to standardize the notification stuff between the services to do it Right, so it'll take some time for thought.

Frankly I do not care about Windows, I abandoned it years ago :).
I would appreciate, instead, to have the balloon notification through notifyosd as soon as possible and add later, when and if possible, the notification also in Windows.

Is there the possibility that the notifyosd notification is included in the short, before the standardization of the notification stuff?

I'm not a python programmer, but looking at the example code seems simple to add, I hope i'm not wrong.

Well, I'm doing my best to keep features identical in the two versions, as it makes maintenance far easier. It's not that the notifications will be hard to add, I just need to do some cleanup first. As of the next release (probably tomorrow), the 'run other program' stuff will be fixed though, so if you really want popup notifications right away, you can use that.

I understand, it means that I will use notify-send through 'run other program' until the feature is implemented :)

Thank you for your patience and for the work done so far

Moving this to TBA 1.2. Just not going to make it into 1.1, I don't think.

Closing, support is in 1.2.0 for NotifyOSD and Snarl on Windows.
