I am using GOContactSync 3.5.24.
My company uses a proxy with an automatic configuration script.
When this is setup in IE, all my browsers work correctly (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera), but GOContactSyncMod, when set to use the "System Proxy" in it's setting window does not work.
In the settings window I must change it to use a "Use a custom HTTP proxy" and set it to the value the automatic configuration script returns.
I have been googling around a bit trying to figure things out and am confused on a couple of fronts.
On Windows 7, using sysinternals process monitor I can see GOContactSync.exe hitting the registry location:
When this is set to System Proxy, this has a value of "False".
When syncing contacts I get:
[12/09/2013 12:53:34 PM | Warning] Cannot connect to Google, please check for available internet connection and proxy settings if applicable: The remote name could not be resolved: 'www.google.com'
If I change it to Custom HTTP Proxy, it works, but this is inconvenient as each time I go home, I have to undo this setting back and forth between work.
So I looked into the other area to specify this on Windows 7 (64 bit):
C:\Program Files (x86)\WebGear\GO Contact Sync\GOContactSync.exe.config
This file appears to offer more options for specifying proxy information.
One of the commented lines in this file is:
So, it looks like I should be able to specify a script location, but the GOContactSync GUI settings for the proxy does not allow me to specify this.
I was hoping someone here can suggest what registry entry I would add to tell it to use the automatic configuration script and hopefully allow me to solve this issue. Is there a Registry Entry for this?
Also, GOContactSync looks in:
1. Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Webgear\GOContactSync
2. C:\Program Files (x86)\WebGear\GO Contact Sync\GOContactSync.exe.config
Which one wins?
Does it check both?
According to Process Explorer it does check both, but of course I cannot determine if it finds information in either location, and which data from which location is finally chosen.
Making this change also does not work: C:\Program Files (x86)\WebGear\GO Contact Sync\GOContactSync.exe.config:
<defaultProxy enabled="true" useDefaultCredentials="true">
<proxy usesystemdefault="True" scriptLocation="http://proxy:8083"/>
The log file:
Doesn't show much additional information:
