When trying to sync Outlook 2007 to Google I get lots of contacts with either the message:
Outlook contacts matching with multiple Google contacts have been found (either same email, Mobile, FullName or company) and cannot be synchronized. Please delete or resolve duplicates of: <list>
or:
Outlook contact found that has been already identified as duplicate Google contact (either same email, Mobile or FullName) and cannot be synchronized. Please delete or resolve duplicates of: <list>
I think this message is ambiguous, or at least confusing.
Does this mean that a _single_ Outlook contact matches two or more Google contacts?
Am I supposed to fix the Google contact(s), or the Outlook contact, or both?
Are the contacts listed Google contacts, or Outlook contacts?
What if they are not really duplicates, for example they are multiple people from a company that uses generic departmental e-mail addresses (e.g. support@dell.com)? Or departmental phone numbers?

There seems to be some functionality missing here - or at least the system is very difficult to use in my situation...

yes, this means that a single Outlook contact matches two or more Google contacts. The problem is, that for the very first match between Outlook and Google GCSM needs to use some unique properties to identfiy, whicht Outlook contact belongs to which Google contact. For that GCSM is using the Title/Fullname or CompanyName, Mobile Phone and Email. Of course in some rare cases it can happen, that 2 contacts share the same email, in even rarer cases it can happen, that 2 contacts share the same mobile phone. For these cases we have implemented the sync option "Merge Prompt". If you use this sync option for the very first sync, each duplicate is displayed to you and you can manually resolve the duplicates by assigning the proper Outlook Contact to the proper Google contact. After the first match, GCSM has saved a match id on both sides and it is not using the Email or mobile anymore for matching, what is much less errorprone and faster of course, i.e. after the first match you can then choose what ever sync option you want.
