So I wanted the contacts that syncronize from Work Outlook to be able to be put into a specific Google Group.
Also I wanted only to have my work contacts added to google (and not google added to work).
I realized that when I put a syncronized contact into a google group that setting was getting overwritten by contact sync.
I discovered by temporarily allowing bi-directional sync that any items put into a category within outlook would be placed into the corresponding Google Group. This was actually fine by me. All I needed to do was then create a Category (Like "Work Contacts") and then categorize all my work contacts with that category. PRESTO work contacts instantly grouped.
