Golly 2.0 has some significant changes. It supports multiple algorithms
and multi-state universes (up to 256 states). This allows it to support
many different types of cellular automata, including John von Neumann's
29-state CA, Generations, WireWorld, Langton's Loops, Paterson's Worms,
and many more. You can also add your own rules.
