Johan Bontes' "Life32" includes the ability to draw straight lines, solid boxes and hollow boxes, as well as support for toruses, which confine life patterns to a specified area and allow them to either wrap around to the other side or disappear off the edge. Could I see these features in Golly?

I agree with DENelson about the boundaries. When I'm playing with patterns for a long time, Golly starts to leak a considerable amount of memory with all the escaped gliders, and it would be nice if they would vanish after they're far away.

To address part of this request:

"...confine life patterns to a specified area..."

This is done by selecting the region you want confined and performing a SHIFT+SPACE iteration. This does not allow for wrapping, however, and if you want to get back to the original pattern before this, UNDOing all the way back is required. It's easier in this case to just place the selected region in a separate layer.
