We used it internally at OT .. Alexander <kw...@ah...> knows a lot about 
it. I personally
like another approach: I defined a small subset as DTD which (in my eyes)
is more suited for daily work. Translating these XML files into docBook is 
then trivial.
(the same applies for any "short" form .. if its in XML, then you have 
Docbook already -
just apply some small XSL transformations :-)

So, there should be no discussion about: Should we XML for documentation. 
If the answer
is "yes", then the final format is only a minor question.
