Anyway, the XPath test suite just failed, and the test names that
aborted were:

ABORT:  [XM_XPATH_TEST_IDREFS.test_idrefs_against_tiny_tree] Eiffel exception
ABORT:  [XM_XPATH_TEST_IDREFS.test_idrefs_against_standard_tree]
Eiffel exception

So it looks like todays new problem is genuinely distinct from the
original problem, and I should be able to debug that myself just using
Eiffel debugging.
