The new version of Gob has been released. This version provides primarily backend changes.

The latest version of Gob Online Chat has been released.

This version has some major feature enhancements including:

* Chat rooms
* Private chat
* Renaming support

It also has some bug fixes and protocol enhancements.

This release has been tested on:

* Redhat 9
* Windows XP

With the Sun JRE version 1.4.2_02.

Future enhancements to this release are to be added to the RFE list on SourceForge soon.

Thanks to Dell and HP agreeing to bundle the Sun JVM on their desktops, and thanks to the global alliance between Sun and RedHat for the bundling of the Sun JVM in RedHat linux I am happy to announce that work will resume on Gob, beginning with work commencing of version 0.2 of Gob.

Due to the withdrawal of Java support from the future Windows operating systems, I have decided that work on this project will halt until further notice.

As the average download size for Java is 10 megabytes, I feel that the majority of Windows users (the target audience for the Java client) will not go through the pain.

So, until either the majority of users out there have an OS that has Java installed, or until the majority of users are using broad-band, my decision to halt this project will probably continue.... read more

I have finally released a beta version of Gob.

I have provided both source files and an RPM file for download.

Gob is coming along nicely. The first release will probably be very bug, since most of my coding up until today has been using the "Happy Path" (thankyou Rational).

I don't plan on supporting anything less than 1.4.1. If all goes well this version of Java should be supplied on Windows XP Service Pack 2. I don't want to go through the pain of using older (and much cruddier) versions of Java.... read more
