GNV Components

GNV consists of a number of components. Currently they are all combined into one kit.

To make it easier to maintain and keep current, work is underway to convert it to a suite of kits that can be updated as needed.

The components with bold text descriptions have updated kits.

Ar_tools A wrapper to provide ar simulation using DCL utilities

awk A special-purpose programming language for data reformatting jobs.

bash Bash shell.

binutils Assemblers and tools to produce and work with the files produced by higher level tools.

bison Bison parse table compiler, alternative to yacc.

bzip2 Compression Utility.

coreutils Core utilities that a GNV configure, make, and testing needs.

diffutils File comparing utilities.

file File type guesser.

findutils File finding utilities.

grep Find information in files utilities.

groff GNU troff of groff. Typesetting / formatting system.

Ld_tools Wrappers that provide ld/cc/c++/cpp images that run VMS native commands.

less Less pager filter / utility.

lzip Data Compression Utility

lzop Data Compression Utility

m4 M4 macro language

make Gnu make utility. GNV fork of Make.

man Man page viewer. Superceeded by man_db

ncompress Open source Compress utility.

patch Patch Utility.

posix_root management This handles creating and using a POSIX root.

sed GNU Stream Editor.

tar GNU Tape Archive Utility.

UnZip Unzip file extraction utility.

Vim VI Improved Editor. Includes xxd.

VMS_binutls This is VMS specific tools that replace or augment the GNU binutils.

VMSTar VMS specific tar implementation.
