As long as I've been monitoring it, the project seems dead. I've already moved on to using the JNI-based JPL interface to SWI-Prolog. I would have preferred a pure Java solution as well but this thing is currently not usable for my needs.

I'm working on making this project passable to other developers. I have little time to work on this project, but still could participiate in design of thing and explain current state of it.

I've made a few enhancements to this project. Most notably the ability to reload more "ensure_load" files without have to clear the whole enviornment space again. I've also integrated it as a Stored Procedure langauge into HSQLDB thus allowing access to prolog as a JDBC source. However, I've encountered some bugs with large data sets for gnuprolog and there is no compiler. I've seen some things on the web for a prolog -> java compiler that might be integratable.
Hiep

If someone who will be intereseted to continue work on it will be found, I would be happy to pass maintaince of this project. There also were some unimplemented ideas on reengineering the project, which I have not time to implement. (particulary module and database system, it were based on then unchecked ideas [now it is checked that they does not work well]).
I could integrate your patches and realease 0.1.1 version if you will send the patches to me.

I wish not, because it is EXACLTY what I've been looking for: an embbedable, non-GUI Prolog engine in pure Java.
Perfect, perfect!! ;)

I've added a patch to the tracker.

The project is not dead, it has however moved to savannah: https://savannah.gnu.org/projects/gnuprologjava/
