Hi Guys, I often have to process very large data files, perhaps 30Mbytes in x,y 32 bit straight BINARY format and I have always used Fortran and gnuplot in a Windows box of some sort. I am getting this week a new windows box with a couple of 8 core Opterons, 32 GB RAM, some 6GB/s SAS RAID 0 15k rpm drives and a 512 core GTX580 CUDA/GPU video card. Have you considered (simply!) recompiling a "fast/big" gnuplot to 64 bit Win 7 and letting it read binary files of say 1E7 x,y data points as fast as possible using CPU/GPU/CUDA cores? Multi cores is becoming the name of the game and a few of us in the World just have to look at very big data sets. Of course, looking at the BIG sets lets us look at the minutiae subsequently. I like you set xrange[ ... ] apparently only working in RAM and not re-reading the whole data set out of disk in version 4.4! I should add that whilst I do much Fortran programming and modeling in the simplest/fastest sense, I do not do GUI's in the FTN code: takes too much effort and time, hence gnuplot to simply look at the results! Hi, Here my comments on recent installation of gnuplotfortran95 in gfortran/gcc 4.3.2 in Fodora10. No problems with the make files for *posix and *gnuplot* libtaries: it was enough to update the F95C line with gfortran. The testbench program initially failed to compile because of long lines. Treating with the f90ppr (pretty print) utility helped, but revealed undefined 'dbc' constant in the datatypes.mod It sufficed to uncomment the relevant line and to recompile the *gnuplot*library-and *testbench worked OK (except for the 'Created with gnuplot-fortran95' text ant odd locations/orientation on some plots. I would welcome a list of problemic subroutines within this library, to work around them. I am a veteran of number-crunching in fortrans66/77/90/95 and of PGPLOT library, though newbie to gnuplot, hating system programming Alex Czerny |

I have written a fortran90 program to generate 2-D plots with the gnuplotfortran API in real time. If anyone would like a copy of this program for testing to see if it meets your needs, let me know via email to fo...@ya.... The compressed tar file is ~1.5MB |

Hello, I installed Gnuplotfortran-0.2.2-1with fortranposix-0.1-1 on my FreeBSD 7 box. A little patch has to be applied to the file posixwrapper.c in fortranposix-0.1-1: 41,44d40 < #ifdef __FreeBSD__ < #include <sys/syslimits.h> < #endif < I tested Gnuplotfortran with g95 0.91 and gnuplot 4.2. Seems to be working ok. Tom |

To compile the demo file, the command should actually be something like this: g95 -o gnuplot_fortran95_testbench gnuplot_fortran95_testbench.f90 -L $(YOURLIBRARYPATH) -lgnuplotfortran -lfortranposix Tom > Hello, > > I am just getting to learn Fortran, but have quite a bit of Linux > experience. > > I'm trying to install gnuplotfortran as an unprivileged user on a SuSE > Enterprise Server 9. > I've already installed libpng, libgd, gnuplot, fortranposix and > gnuplotfortran with PREFIX=/home/user/somedir/ > and set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include /home/user/somedir/lib. > When trying to test the testbench in > $PREFIX/src/gnuplotfortran-0.2.2-1 the > command is: > > g95 -B ../../lib/ -o proggy gnuplot_fortran95.f90 -lfortranposix > -lgnuplotfortran > > which leads to: > > /usr/local/g95-install/bin/../lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.0.3//libf95.a( > main.o)(.text+0x29): In function 'main': > /home/andy/g95.build/linux/g95-0.90/runtime/main.c: undefined reference to > 'MAIN_' > > I do not understand where the problem is originating from. Hello, I am just getting to learn Fortran, but have quite a bit of Linux experience. I'm trying to install gnuplotfortran as an unprivileged user on a SuSE Enterprise Server 9. I've already installed libpng, libgd, gnuplot, fortranposix and gnuplotfortran with PREFIX=/home/user/somedir/ and set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include /home/user/somedir/lib. When trying to test the testbench in $PREFIX/src/gnuplotfortran-0.2.2-1 the command is: g95 -B ../../lib/ -o proggy gnuplot_fortran95.f90 -lfortranposix -lgnuplotfortran which leads to: /usr/local/g95-install/bin/../lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.0.3//libf95.a( main.o)(.text+0x29): In function 'main': /home/andy/g95.build/linux/g95-0.90/runtime/main.c: undefined reference to 'MAIN_' I do not understand where the problem is originating from. Is it one of fortranposix/gnuplotfortran, or is it from the (I suppose) custom install of g95 or is it something else that I'm just plain missing? Any help as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi there, a question: does anybody sucessfully run gnuplotfortran on an amd opteron maschine using g95. Or to be more specifically about my problem: gnuplotfortran works, but not the hardcopy to eps. Instead of producing a correct eps file it is empty (but exists) and the plots are send to X11 displays and shown on screen (but with wrong size...) If i copy the gnuplot commands given by gnuplotfortran to a file and load that via gnuplot, everythings works fine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Felix - |

I'm interested in a port of gnuplotfortran to Mac OS. I'm running Absoft ProFortran 9.2 on a G4 under Mac OS 10.4.2 (Tiger). I attempted such a port by first attempting to install fortranposix by downloading the tar files (not the Debian file) from http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/fortranposix. I got following results: *dsl092-239-159:~/fortranposix-0.1-1 samueldupree$ make gcc -c posixwrapper.c posixwrapper.c: In function 'fortrangetpipebufsize_': posixwrapper.c:56: error: 'PIPE_BUF' undeclared (first use in this function) posixwrapper.c:56: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once posixwrapper.c:56: error: for each function it appears in.) make: *** [posixwrapper.o] Error 1 dsl092-239-159:~/fortranposix-0.1-1 samueldupree$* Any suggestions on how to do the fortranposix installation on a Mac, let alone the gnuplotfortran installation? I tested fortranposix-0.1 and gnuplotfortran-0.2.2-1 on Sun with g95 compiler. Here are results: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Test computer: > uname -a SunOS name.dom1.purdue.edu 5.8 Generic_117350-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-80 > g95 -v gcc version 4.0.1 (g95!) Jul 10 2005 > gcc -v gcc version 3.4.3 > make -v GNU Make 3.80 > gnuplot -V gnuplot 4.0 patchlevel 0 Test results: 1. fortranposix required modifications: - Makefile: changed "-shared" to "-G" 2. gnuplotfortran required modifications: - Makefile: changed "-shared" to "-G" - gnuplot_fortran95.f90: uncomment line 94 (why was it commented out?) 3. testbench required modifications: - gnuplot_fortran95_testbench.f90: according to dbx all calls to "fortran_getchar(debug)" failed on line 390 in posixwrapper.c: if((*readchar=getchar())==EOF) I don't know enough to investigate further, so I just replaced status=fortran_getchar(debug) with read(*,'(a1)') debug ------------------------------------------------------------------- As far as I can tell, all tests in gnuplot_fortran95_testbench finished correctly. Sun Fortran 95 8.1 does not fail on "fortran_getchar(debug)" so this looks like a bug in g95. Tomasz |
