#198 GnuPlot 5.0.1 Code 267 error

After installing GnuPlot 5.0.1 from gp501-win-mingw.exe on an XP system it is not possible to run it. Instead, the error message 'CreateProcess schlug fehl. Code 267' is issued.

What can be done?

I'm stabbing in the dark here (last XP system was retired a year ago), but you could

• start gnuplot.exe from the cmd shell, you might get some more error messages
• try with another default terminal (start with "dumb" and then try to switch to "windows" etc. and see when it breaks.)
• check your user privileges (try to start with admin rights)
• try the zip version, perhaps the installer is broken for XP
  and obviously
• upgrade to win7 or linux (OK, you've surely heard that one before ;-))

Could you use gp5.0.0?
