Hello.

I have gnuplot 4.6.0 on Windows 7 64 bit Professional.

I have big input file (test.plt in attachment). When it is loaded in wgnuplot, it works OK, charts are shown. But if I feed it as STDIN to pgnuplot:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\gnuplot\bin\pgnuplot.exe" < test.plt
no charts are built, and input in wgnuplot window is corrputed (it seems that some CR are missed).

Now that we have a real console version of gnuplot on Windows, too (gnuplot.exe), there's not really that much point in using pgnuplot.exe any more. I suggest you switch.

I tried to switch, but I could not get persistent window with chart on windows terminal.
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\gnuplot\bin\gnuplot.exe" -p - < test.plt
lead to chart appearing and immediately closing before a chance to look at it. With pgnuplot it works as desired, but it has the bug reported here.

Why use redirection for that? It should work better without.

  • Constantin Stefanov

It does works without, but my real gnuplot script is created by another script with Ruby gnuplot library, and it tries to feed it to gnuplot via stdin. Maybe there is a way to use temp file, but I do not know it, and it is not convenient anyway.

The CVS version of gnuplot includes a console mode version (gnuplot.exe) which supports pipes, a windowed version (wgnuplot_pipes.exe) with support for pipes, and the (traditional) windows version (wgnuplot.exe) with (fake) pipe support from within the program. Should version 5 really still include 'pgnuplot' to pipe to wgnuplot.exe?

In other words: I am proposing to remove pgnuplot in the next release altogether. Objections?
