#157 Palm is rebooting on 2 specific names

After having changed many names in the keyring
application, my palm is just rebooting completely
when I try to access 2 of these "renamed" records out
of 107 records.
I can't delete these records as we need to enter them
before being able to delete them.
The behavior is now reproductible on these 2 records.
All other records work well.

Please make a backup of this broken database in a safe
place. It would be nice if I can investigate the source of
    the problem.

I assume you are using keyring-1.2.3. If you're using
    keyring-2.0-preX ignore the remaining comment...

I have a guess what can cause this. It looks that if the
crypted region of the record does not have the right size,
there can be a buffer overflow in the decryption routine.
Please try the (fully inofficial) 1.2.3a version I just
created (if it works I make it official).

    You can find it at
    http://gnukeyring.sf.net/keyring-1.2.3a-en.zip

Please tell me if it works.

I'm currently using 1.2.3 (2003-10-27) and will try the "a" version. Thanks.

I've downloaded the version 1.2.3a and launch it on my Palm.
The behavior is exactly the same as before.
Records are OK, except the ones which were corrupted before.
Palm is rebooting when I try to look at these records.

If you send me the database Keys-Gtkr.pdb (encrypted with my
GPG key, see web site) to hoenicke at users dot sourceforge
dot net, together with the names of the broken records, I
should be able to delete these records with a hex editor.

I'm not sure if this is enough to find the cause of the
reset, though. If the problem is in the encrypted part, I
have no chance to see it.

    I have the same problem.

I don't know if this helps.
I noticed the problem when I made the following changes.

    I had two records:
    usaa and usaa/diana

I noticed in KeyringEditor, the java app on the PC, that records with a
"/" included were interpreted by KeyringEditor as a submenu.

So I changed some of the record names in Keyring to include dashes.
    Specifically, I changed
    usaa/diana to usaa-diana
Now I get the problem with resetting when I click on usaa.

Sorry to submit this again, my source forge account wasn't signed in.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem on my Palm T|X running Keyring 2.0-pre6 (2006-06-27).

While I would be happy to be able to delete the two records causing a problem, I cannot get into them at all.

If anyone is still monitoring this forum, I would appreciate any advice. I note the offer by hoenicke to assist a previous reporter of the problem - I would be very grateful for help if you are still reading this!

    Thanks.
    Geoffrey
