The first time contour is called with /overplot, it fails to plot:

plot,findgen(20)
contour,dist(20),/overplot

once contour is called without /overplot, contour behaves normally again:

contour,dist(20)
plot,findgen(20)
contour,dist(20),/overplot

    Hi, yes, but IDL does the same. Shall we do otherwise?

    Thank you I didn't notice that IDL does the same.

    However, here is a case where GDL does not behave like IDL:

    plot,findgen(20)
    data = dist(20)
    data[0,0:19] = -1d/0d
    contour,data,/overplot,levels=findgen(20)

    I.e., if the first column (or row) of data is undefined, GDL's contour does not plot anything, whereas IDL's contour does.
