Unofficial GDL Binary distribution is here!

Build 160105: Bump to GDL 0.9.6. From this version, the installer also installs an IDL-like dedicated IDE for GDL (called GDL Workbench). The source code of the IDE is available in the GDL main source tree, and your contribution is urgently needed!

Build 150406: Lots of bugs are fixed. Now TV and CURSOR work quite well (but not perfect). Still widget functionality is not fully implemented yet, this version implements a fake XDISPLAYFILE and WIDGET_CONTROL, which is simply a proxy of PRINT. From this version, setup automatically associates '*.pro' files to GDL. Newly available procedures/functions - FILE_SEARCH (needs test), FILE_EXPAND_PATH(needs test), FILE_READLINK(needs test), WRITE_TIFF, POLYWARP, DIALOG_MESSAGE, and DIALOG_PICKFILE.

Build 141116: Added several missing DLLs.

  • I cannot set breakpoints and debug. There is no perspective for debugging. The only perspectives present are those named GDL (default), Resource, and Team Synchronizing. Also, the workspace cannot be switched. When I try, I get a missing system property error saying that the eclipse.vm property has not been set. It compiles and runs .pro files that are open in edit windows using the Run menu item. But .run filename only works if the file is in either the working directory or is in a directory in !PATH. Specifying a complete path doesn't work. The working directory can be changed by a command such as cd,'c:/gdl' in the command line. Batch execution @filename requires the complete path to be given. An alternative: Install command line GDL on WSL2 Ubuntu and on WSL2 Debian in Windows 11. First add the Windows features Windows Subsystem for Linux and Virtual Machine Platform and enable Developer Mode before installing Ubuntu and Debian from the Windows Store. In an Ubuntu terminal, do sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntugis/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gdal-bin sudo apt install gnudatalanguage In a Debian terminal first do sudo apt install software-properties-common Then do the commands for Ubuntu. The command gdl starts GDL. Another alternative: Download the GDL Windows installer gdlsetup-Windows-x86_64-standard.exe from github (Search for GNU Data Language in github. Choose the C++ GDL project. Click on the link "GDL on Windows". Then go into the "Weekly builds"). Run it to install the programs GDL (command Line) and GDL_Workbench. The command line GDL works but the workbench GDL gave unresolved requirement errors until I installed the archived Java JDK win32 version 8 jdk-8u202-windows-i586.exe. The gdlde doesn't seem to work with x64 JDK versions. See conversation #1660 "GDL_Workbench gives unresolved requirement errors" in the github Discussion. Also, there is no perspective for debugging in this gdlde, so this does not entirely fix things.
  • Downloaded/installed GDL on Win7 and all went as expected. Basic graphics look OK. Well done! I didn't realize a win distro existed - thot debian was the only way to gain a precomipled access to GDL. As a long-time IDL user, I can provide some feedback if desired. Is there a single doc file for this? (graphics backend, etc.)?

Hi, Thanks! This project is now deprecated, the code to generate the installer is now merged into the main source tree on Github. You can find binaries here: https://github.com/gnudatalanguage/gdl/actions
  • 12/AUG update: The developer updated the installer and gdl0.9.4-cvs-140811.exe worked perfectly at first try on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. A quick check with simple plots worked well. More testing of GDL is now needed... 5/AUG: I downloaded this program with anticipation, as a Windows version of GDL has been lacking for many years. Unfortunately the installer (v.140606) does not contain all files needed to run the program and I was unable to run this Win32 version of GDL on either Windows 7 or Windows 8. I trust the developers will soon fix this and I am looking forward to give it another try when ready.
  • UPDATE for cvs-140811 plotting windows is still sketchy but better. Install did not require file movement. It might help to have the following symbols: PLPLOT_DRV_DIR=D:\programs\gnudatalanguage\plplot\drivers PLPLOT_HOME=D:\programs\gnudatalanguage\plplot GDL_PATH=+D:\programs\gnudatalanguage\lib
