Once in a while I am not at a computer with GnuCOBOL or I just want to run a test real quick without calling up my editor, going to shell and compiling and running, so I use Jdoodle's Online COBOL Compiler IDE. It uses GnuCOBOL and lets you choose which version you want to use. It is awesome and fun. They have other languages also BUT in addition they have an Android APP so you can teste on your phone or tablet.
They were fast and distributed a Christmas present, cobcrun version output says:
libcob (GnuCOBOL) 3.1.2.0
Built Dec 24 2020 19:08:58
Packaged Dec 23 2020 12:04:58 UTC
Other specs:
Linux jdoodle 5.4.0-125-generic #141-Ubuntu SMP Wed Aug 10 13:42:03 UTC 2022 x86_64 GNU/Linux
build information
build environment : x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
CC : gcc
C version : "10.2.0"
It would be likely useful if they disable extended screen io during configure (because it won't be useable in any case by compiling with --without-curses) and instead explicit enable json --with-json (which is actually quite lightwight compared to libxml2).
@aoirthoir as you use it, would you mind contacting them dropping that hints - and possibly friendly request the entries to be named "GnuCOBOL" instead of "GNU COBOL"?

Yes I will contact them about that. I was also thinking that the main screen they have which says Online COBOL Compiler IDE should say instead Online GnuCOBOL Compiler IDE but I was not sure if that mattered or if it would be even appropriate for me to ask them. Perhaps it is preferrable to just say what it says now so people searching can find it immediately. I searched online cobol compiler to find the site originally. so maybe Online COBOL Compiler IDE with GnuCOBOL?
I realise it is not necessary but maybe its a nice thing to do? But in the other case where they have the drop downs it definitely makes sense.
And while I have you here, GnuCOBOL is correct and not GnuCobol? I keep alternating but am trying to make myself right it correct.
