Hi Markus, thanks for your bug report. > I really like gnubiff, but i think its giving false positives with gmail. >=20 > I believe it's with all the 3 latest versions i have used, i dont know if > different with older ones. The problems you describe should be present in all versions of gnubiff. > Gnubiff shows like Gmail: + and 1 > with old mails, i think this happens every hour or two. Currently gnubiff resets its internal buffer with read messages if there is a connection error. As the gmail pop3 server gives connection errors quite freuqently this probably leads to the behavior you notice. We will provide an option in the near future to disable this resetting when connection errors occur. > Also when i write a mail in gmail, gnubiff sees it and says 1 new mail. This is a feature of gmail not gnubiff. There is no way to change this in gnubiff when using the gmail pop3 server. It may help to use one of the local pop3 proxies that parse gmail's web interface (freepops or libgmail) and access these via gnubiff. > So maybe there could be improvement with checking of gmail accounts. Certainly. As the problems via the pop3 interface are not on our side, gmail doesn't want to support the IMAP4 protocol (which would be the correct protocol for a server based mailbox service) a much improved gmail support will not be available in the near future. This may happen later but to do so in a proper and reliable way is not so easy. > With Best Regards > Markus Liukka >=20 > and Thanks! for such nice litle program :) Thanks. CU Robert :-) PS: There is currently a discussion about these gmail issues on the gnubiff development list (in the thread http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=3D9465073&forum_id= =3D42621) that may give additional details. |
