When gnubiff is checking accounts for new email because the user requested gnubiff to do this by clicking on the icon, some sort of feedback should be given to the user to let them know that gnubiff is in fact doing the check, and to let them know when the check has finished. I suggest a new icon, preferably an animated one as animations are normally used to show something in progress, that is used when gnubiff is checking for mail, when it finishes checking it goes back to the asleep or awake penguin icon as normal.

Note that the new icon should be used only when gnubiff is checking email in response to a user command. If gnubiff is just doing an automatic check then I don't think the user needs to know about it, and an icon that keeps changing or going animated every few minutes would be a distraction.
