Of course questions regards how to develop gnuaccounting are particularly welcome. The webinar can be attended with Mac, Linux, Windows as well as iOS and Android (for the latter have a look in the according market places for the Webex client software) but I have the impression Windows is slightly better supported than e.g. the linux client. Hi, I plan to release 0.8.0 on Friday, 09/09 15:00 CET. Please refer to the nightly build if you require binary test versions (http://www.gnuaccounting.org/gnuaccounting-nightly.zip). There is an official prerelease for the media (http://www.gnuaccounting.org/gnuaccounting080prerelease.zip and http://www.gnuaccounting.org/gnuaccounting080prerelease.exe) which will be removed after the actual release but already yesterdays nightly build should have two exceptions less. The following german and english announcements will be distributed: German/Deutsch ------------------------------------------------- Aktuelle Version bietet Korrekturen, Verbesserungen und neue Features der Cross-Plattform Faktura Alzey, 07.09.2011. „Für die nun vorliegende Version von Gnuaccounting griffen die Umbauten zum Teil sehr tief, bis in die Architektur des Programmes hinein“, sagt Jochen Stärk, Autor der Buchhaltungssoftware. „Das hatte Vorteile, beispielsweise einen vereinfachten Programmaufbau und Zukunftsfähigkeit. Zu den Nachteilen zählten eine lange Entwicklungszeit, die fehlende Möglichkeit der Datenübernahme von den Vorgängerversionen und eine lange und intensive Testphase.“ Die Art und Weise wie Daten gespeichert werden, wurde dabei nicht nur komplett verändert, sondern auch technisch auf eine neue Basis gesetzt: Die Umstellung von Hibernate/HSQLDB auf Eclipselink/Derby erlaubt vor allem zukünftige Erweiterungen. Die übrigen Eclipselink-kompatiblen Datenbanken, allen voran MySQL und PostgreSQL, werden aber weiterhin unterstützt. Das eigene, proprietäre Open Business Data Exchange (OBDX)-Format wurde zugunsten von „openTRANS“ (http://www.opentrans.de/) komplett eingestellt. Diese Umstellung ermöglicht es, Daten auch mit anderen Programmen auszutauschen. openTRANS ist ein offener und unabhängiger Standard für elektronische Rechnungen und wurde unter der Federführung des Fraunhofer Instituts für Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation entwickelt. Gnuaccounting verschickt nun auf Wunsch Rechnungen inklusive entsprechender openTRANS-Dateien per E-Mail an den Kunden. Zusätzlich wurde die osCommerce-Online-Shop-Anbindung auf openTRANS umgestellt. Um eine bessere openTRANS-Unterstützung zu gewährleisten, wurden in der neuen Version erstmals Artikelbeschreibungen und Liefereinheiten wie Stunde, Meter oder Stück eingeführt. Ebenfalls zur besseren Weitergabe der Daten zeigt Gnuaccounting jetzt eine Soll-Haben-Indikation in der Kontenstaffel und exportiert in ein neues Format für die bei Steuerberatern beliebte „Addison“-Software. Dennoch gebe es weiterhin Verbesserungspotenzial. „Es stören noch Fehler im Zusammenspiel der Bibliotheken mit deren Umgebung. Aufgrund eines noch nicht portierten Features von OpenOffice.org kann es derzeit keine Mac-Version geben und unter Linux funktioniert mitunter die Texteingabe in die Vorlagengestaltung nicht korrekt. In diesen Bereichen sind wir auf die OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, Java und Gnome-Communities angewiesen“, sagt Stärk. Auch die grafische Oberfläche des Programms sehe, so Stärk, „immer noch grauenhaft aus“. Gerade dies sei ein guter, weil relativ einfacher, Einstieg für Programmierer, die zu Gnuaccounting beitragen wollen. Interessierte könnten ihn einfach per E-Mail kontaktieren. Außerdem sei es unbefriedigend, dass das Programm im Jahresabschluss noch „schwächelt“. Für seine Firma funktioniere es zwar wunderbar, den Steuerberater den Jahresabschluss machen zu lassen, sollte aber jemand keinen Steuerberater haben, wären erweiterte Fähigkeiten in Richtung Bilanz, oder zumindest einer vollständigen Einnahmeüberschussrechnung, „durchaus wünschenswert“. Andere To Dos, wie eine Transaktionshistorie oder die Anzeige der vergangenen Rechnungen pro Kunden, könnten dank des gerade erfolgten Umbaus in den nächsten Versionen dagegen endlich angegangen werden, erläutert Stärk. Die neue Version funktioniert zusätzlich zu Windows 7 wieder unter Vista und XP. The disadvantages included a lengthy development time, the fact that it was not possible to transfer data from previous versions and a long and intensive test phase.” In fact, the way that data is stored was not changed completely but a new basis has been provided for it, amongst other things, in technical terms. The main advantage of the switch from Hibernate/HSQLDB to Eclipselink/Derby is that it will allow for any future extensions. The other databases compatible with Eclipselink, particularly MySQL and PostgreSQL, will, however, continue to be supported. Nonetheless, Stärk does still think that there is room for improvement. “There are still errors in how the libraries interact with their environment. Owing to a feature of OpenOffice.org that has not yet been ported, a Mac version is not yet possible and with Linux text input does not always function properly in the template design. In these areas, we have to rely on the OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, Java and Gnome communities,” explains Stärk. Stärk also admits that the program’s user interface “still looks ghastly,” adding that this is a good starting point for new programmers who want to make a contribution to Gnuaccounting because it is relatively simple. Anybody interested should just get in touch with him by e-mail. Moreover, he considers it unsatisfactory that the program is still “rather weak” on annual accounts. And he adds that although it works beautifully for his company getting his accountant to do the annual accounts, if somebody does not have an accountant, he thinks that more balance sheet-related features “would be desirable”, or at least a complete P/L feature. However, as Stärk explains, it should now at last be possible to deal in forthcoming versions with other items on the to-do list, such as a transaction history or the facility to show previous invoices per customer, thanks to the recently improved infrastructure. The new version works not only with Windows 7, but also with Vista and XP. Other problems that have now been corrected include the way the program may “freeze” with invoices containing several items using Windows. Hi, I finished the features for 0.8.0, consequently the next nighly build will no longer be called 0.8.0 alpha 5 but 0.8.0 release candidate 1 (http://www.gnuaccounting.org/gnuaccounting-nightly.zip). Testing will take some weeks, the test plans are much more comprehensive than the usual smoketests before a micro release. I'd share my desktop, you can view it through your browser (Mac, Win and Lin) and we can chat - it sometimes still happens that I run over bugs when I show gnuaccounting's alphas to other people. If you want to show something to me: we can switch desktops if you accept the request. Hallo Jochen, ich bin mit gnuaccounting ein Stück weiter. Das Paket kann unter http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/lumnis/openSUSE_11.4/ für openSUSE 11.4 runtergeladen werden. Folgender Stand, soweit ich das gesehen habe. Das Programm kann installiert werden und scheint auch zu funktionieren. Einige graphische Unstimmigkeiten in der Nutzeroberfläche konnte ich sehen, vielleicht ist das aber so. Ein Eintrag in das KDE Menü mit entsprechendem icon wird angelegt (unter Anwendungen/Büroprogramme/) Ein Problem bereitet immernoch das Start script. Im Moment scheint das Programm nur zu funktionieren, wenn ich das startscript aus dem Programmverzeichnis aus aufrufe. Liegt das script in /usr/bin oder verwendet man einen link von /usr/bin zum start script im Programmverzeichnis, können die Verzeichnisse der Programmteile nicht gefunden werden. Könnte sich jemand von euch dem Problem annehmen? Bitte seht und testet das Paket, z.b. in einer virtuellen machine mit einem suse live image (das mache ich hier) viele grüße Denny |

0.7.9 offers improvements for businesses extempt from VAT, better linux
support and improved import/export

"We start the new year with little enhancements and further
stabilization of Gnuaccounting", says Jochen Stärk, author of
Gnuaccounting. RPM- and DEB-Packages are supposed to improve the
installation in Linux. Companies not eligible for value added taxes also
benefit from the improvements.
Import of bank statements, so far only possible with Moneyplex,
Starmoney or via HBCI/FinTan chipcard banking, is now also possible from
the free banking software Hibiscus. "When importing from the bank, the
user usually only has to select contra account and document number. In
small companies sometimes there is hardly any other accounting task to
be done.", Stärk explains.
"Plus we now support CSV-export - and we support our first english
accounting chart.", tells Stärk. The export can be used to pass data to
tax advisers. English accounting charts ("Gnucash Business") are
important not to have to rely on german account descriptions in the
english version of the software.

Gnuaccounting is an open source Java cross-platform accounting and
bookkeeping application. For the creation of invoices and vouchers it
embeds OpenOffice. It supports chip-card-based online banking (HBCI) and

on 23 March 2005. Since then, there have been more than nineteen
thousand downloads.
The software is available in German and English and can be used as a
portable application. If desired, it uses external databases like MySQL

Candidates for the next releases include a CSV export of the journal and support for companies with unusual VATs, e.g. very small companies with 0% VAT in germany (Umsatzsteuerbefreite Kleinunternehmen). Hi, 0.7.7 is almost feature complete, testing can start in the next days. Thanks to Markus gnuaccounting lost some of it's most serious bugs, including OOO.org 3.2 incompatibility, a hang on application quit and the big issue in the template editor. ==>This time we really did our homework. I also fixed the portable version, added an english manual and upgraded NOA to 2.2.3, SWT to 3.6 and HSQLDB to 2.0. There is a rudimentary Cash closing window but that is, like user management currently only preparative work and not yet intended for productional use. Lots to tests in the coming days.
