I wanted to try the Darwin X86 OS badly enough to spring the $15.00 bucks for the Installer CDRs and another $30 for the packages, etc on DVD. I almost balked at the $28.00 "shipping" charge, but what the heck.

Arrived today (actual shipping $8.95, BTW). Put thex86 install CD in, and.....went as far as the "Apple" splash screen and froze there. I tried platform=X86PC to no avail.

    Running 3.2 Ghz P4, 1GB memory.

Guess I just made a big donation to GNU-DARWIN.....wish I could get some use out of it.

Thank you for posting this to the forum.  I'll reproduce my email response for the benefit of our other users.

Sorry to hear about your problems.  It is unfortunately true that the
OpenDarwin-6.6.1 OS upon which the system is based does not work with
every known x86 architecture.  One workaround might be to download a
more recent Darwin OS image from the internet and try that.  The
package set should work fine with more recent versions.  GNU-Darwin
cannot distribute the more recent versions because of concerns about
the free software status of the hardware drivers.  To do so would be
      contrary to our stated mission.

I deeply would like to help you get up and running with another version
of Darwin, within the constraints of our mission statement.  The reason
for this shipping charge is that we distribute the cost among all of
our users for all of our shipping around the world, so that users in
far away places will not be penalized for their distance from us.  As a
result, users in the US pay more, which seems fair to me.
