    Hi,

I think I posted this in the wrong forum.

I'm very keen to try out an X86 version of UNIX and love what I hear about Darwin ... I've tried OpenDarwin 7.2.1 with no luck. On one machine it installs but then wont boot waiting for root device, on another it doesn't get far into the install (that last is kind of surprising since it's a damned good machine, P4/2.6, modern, not cheap, motherboard and so on).

So I was kind of hoping to try the latest GNU-Darwin ... but I can't seem to link to the X86 download files. Any help as to where they might be would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

    James

Our file repository is unfortunately off-line at this time, and a support request has been filed with the Sourceforge.  It might be some time before this actually gets fixed, but if you are not in a hurry, then it might be worth the wait.

We also have a new version of the OS ready, and we will make it available as soon as the file server comes back on-line.  This version provides some additional hardware support as well.

If you Google the name of the iso you, you might be able to find it an an unauthorized mirror, which is actually fairly common.

Alternatively, you can order the disc from our ordering webpage.  Here is the link.

      http://www.gnu-darwin.org/index.php?page=order

We are working to produce saleable discs with the new version of the OS at this time, so that might be another thing worth waiting for.

... unfortunately it doesn't work, doesn't boot after install!

I get the message, "unexpected kernel trap d eip 1c440924" followed by a whole load of frame statements then:

      invalid frame pointer 0
      Failed instruction exception (2, d, 0)
      ethernet MAC address 00:00:00:00:00:00
      ip address 0.0.0.0

      Waiting for remote debugger connection.
      kdp_poll: no debugger device

      Very frustrating :-(
