Dear Robert, you are going in the right direction, since the decoding of the I/NAV message (a TelemetryDecoder block) described in [2] is still missing, and one of the main milestones of the "Galileo E1 basic positioning" project. Let me say that for participating in GSoC you don't need to master navigation systems, we will provide participants with all the necessary documentation and guidance.
