I've installed and started using gnofin 0.8.4 and just discovered that reconciliation doesn't work. When ever I select Tools/Reconcile, I get the message: Sorry, but this feature is not yet implemented. Have I misconfigured something somewhere? There appears to be a plugin for reconciliation but I'm not sure it's actually using it. > But now if you change (or even click on) a preference and don't apply > it, gnofin 0.7.10 segfaults when you select the next preference item. fascinating! it doesn't do this for me... can you please send me a backtrace using GDB: 1) make sure your shell will permit core dumps. if you are using bash, type "ulimit -c" to see what it reports. if the number is not really big, type something like "ulimit -c 1000000" 2) run gnofin with the --disable-crash-dialog option (assuming you have a recent version of GNOME installed). if you don't see this option, then just run gnofin with no arguments. 3) next, do what you did to get it to segfault (running Gnofin from a shell) 4) next, check for a "core" file in the current directory. 5) hopefully it exists, and then you can type "gdb gnofin core" 6) gdb will come up with a (gdb) prompt. at this prompt, type "bt" and send me the output. this tells me exactly where Gnofin died. Also, it would be great if you could tell me what versions of gtk+ and gnome-libs you are using. Chuck, For the moment, Gnofin can only do transfer between accounts you define within it. I am changing this in the near future. All you have to do to get the desired behavior, is this: 1) define a new account for your other bank 2) goto Edit->Define Record Types change the properties of the CHK data type so that it is both "linked" and has an "unrestricted" sign. now if you try to enter a record of type CHK, you will see that you can select the linked account out of the list of existing accounts. hope this works for you, darin >From: "Charles R. This is probably because your locale requires the month before the day. Make sure you have the environment variable LC_ALL set correctly. On my system for example (for which LC_ALL=en_US), %d-%m-%Y is invalid because in the US the month comes before the day. This is most likely the problem... you probably have not set your locale and therefore it is assuming US conventions (the POSIX default). Try this (assuming you are running the bash shell): export LC_ALL=it_IT gnofin Your date format should now work. Turns out the problem is as simple as the QIF file having an extra blank line at the top. If you edit the file and remove that line, it should load just fine. Gnofin 0.7.9 will be smarter about this. I just installed gnofin version gnofin-0.7.8-1 with libxml-1.8.6-1 running on rh6.0. When I try to import the qif file, I get an error message saying that the file is not a valid qif file. Attached is a copy of the qif file that I export from my banks website. Also, my banks website states that there are two different qif file formats. One for Quicken 99 and for the older Quicken 98. Which one does gnofin support? I tried both and received the same error message. Is there any more information I should provide? Thanks |

Sorry for the shocking behavior!! Your data is fine (provided you didn't save in 0.7.7). The problem is that Gnofin isn't smart enough to know how to format money if it can't determine your locale. This is a bug, of course, because Gnofin should assume a default money format when one can't be determined. The solution is simple: If you are running bash, export LC_ALL=en_US gnofin If you are running tcsh, setenv LC_ALL en_US gnofin Sorry again about the trouble. My Redhat 6.1 box (on which I am developing Gnofin) defines this environment variable by default. I did not think about this situation when I made the changes to 0.7.7. You're not the first person to ask about this... you need to define the environment variable LANG. Try this: bash% export LANG=en_US or tcsh% setenv LANG en_US Unfortunately, I have been only testing under Redhat 6.1 (which by default has this variable properly defined). In future versions Gnofin will detect this and take appropriate default action. BTW.. the reason for this problem is that Gnofin tries to be smart about determining the monetary format suitable for your locale. Oh well... it'll get it right next time. The problem is this (and you are not the first to notice it!!). You don't have the LANG environment variable set. Unfortunately, while Gnofin tries to be smart about determining how amounts are formatted, it falls flat on its face when this variable is not set. It should assume defaults (like en_US: 3,455.21). Anyways, the solution until I can get a fix online is to define the LANG variable. Uunfortunately, you are using a version of libxml that is too old. The one from redhat 6.1 and even october gnome is badly broken w.r.t. special characters like "&". There should be a list of all importable file types (currently just QIF). The same is true of the File->Export menu. It gives a list of exportable types (currently HTML, LaTeX, tab-delimited text, Gnofin-0.6.X, and Gnofin-0.5.X). If you aren't getting these then there is something wrong with your installation. Check out the thread on sourceforge about this in the public forum. Someone else had the same problem. Turns out he configured gnofin with a prefix of /usr/local (which is the default)... however, with this default, the plugins aren't found (not unless you similarly compiled gnome and installed it in /usr/local). You see... so you have to either install the binary, or specify configure --prefix=/usr to get the plugins to load. Another option is to make a .gnofin directory in your home directory.
