Hi, I've add to gnofin (branch 0.xx), a plugin to find some records. All kind of search is nearly done (i need to do search on date). Please test it and give me your opinion about the interface. For result, i think i will display it under the list of records. Luc |

Hey! I've rolled up another developer tarball for all to use. Progress is slow, but the result is looking good. This version supports much of the basic functionality. However, some obvious things like being able to delete a transaction are missing. Changes include: undo/redo file save insert record record editor/list now remember configuration There are many other changes as well, but most of the changes are not visible from the GUI. Anyways, my goal is to have a version with all of the 0.8.x functionality by the end of january. At which point, I will most likely start releasing binary packages of the unstable tree. But, it will still be some time before this can go stable, because there will be many other features that will have to go in before the new code can really replace 0.8.x. So, perhaps that means we will be able to have a stable 1.0.0 release sometime in late february or early march. Major things left to do include: record selection record delete record list sorting record list filtering account delete account modify account group insert account group delete account group modify port clipboard code port preferences code port various import/export filters (QIF, CBB, etc.) port edit->transaction types Features that should go into 1.0.0 auto save in background crash recovery basic statistics (money totals by category) Features that I'd like to see in 1.0.0 but that I probably won't have time for: basic printing of record list basic reminders/scheduling of transactions basic plotting to accompany statistics At any rate, contributions are always welcome ;) Darin |

Hey all, I have posted a snapshot of the CVS MAIN branch as of Nov 1, 2000. You can find it at: ftp://gnofin.sourceforge.net/pub/gnofin/0.99 http://jagger.me.berkeley.edu/~dfisher/gnofin/0.99 I plan to take a similar snapshot every week (possibly every wednesday). At some point we may even want to start publicizing these releases, but I don't want to do that until we get closer to Gnofin 1.0. Darin |

Michel, Sounds great! We'll plan a 0.8.3 for the end of the week. Scheduled tasks is something I am working on in the new development code. I have many complaints about the old architecture. All of these things like scheduled tasks, and such, will be much _much_ easier to implement in the new code base. It is just going to be a couple of months before I get the new code base up to par with the 0.8.X one. It is getting there, but there is still much work to do. Glad to hear that people find Gnofin useful!! Cheers! Darin mic...@pi... wrote: > Darin, > > I only read your message today, I didn't work yesterday. Lee, Thanks for the kind words :) Your suggestion sounds really good to me. I'm hard at work on the next generation Gnofin and will try to incorporate this feature. What do you think? > Idea to use Enter as single key to either insert or update an operation is a very intuitive way of doing things for beginners. More over if there is one button, bound to Enter key, with a changing text: - When user edits the last empty line, it is written Insert in the button text - When user edits an existing line, it is written update In both cases, RETURN is used to validate data. It is not anymore possible to copy an existing operation by just changing something, to an existing entry and then pressing Insert button. This feature is not completely lost, it is replaced by CTRL+C, CTRL+V and edition, which is more intuitive for other OS users. Yes, I agree... we should try to make the register as user friendly and informative as possible. Adding accelerators is a really good idea. I just haven't thought too much about the implementation yet. Also, in the development code, I am thinking about a different button scheme. Instead of "Insert" and "Update" you would simply have "Enter". We would then have a blank transaction at the bottom of the list that you would have to select when entering a new transaction. Then "Enter" would mean "Insert". Otherwise, if you just change an existing transaction, "Enter" would mean "Update". This could and should be a user preference. But, I think for beginners having only a "Enter" button would be a more intuitive design. There could also be a "Cancel" button that effectively cancels any of the changes you were making. What do you think? Darin |
